A Land's Transformation: Parc de la Ciutadella.

The main fountain in the park that only goes on at noon and 5pm.

The city park of Barcelona is Parc de la Ciutadella, which lies just a bit west of the ocean. Looking at it now and walking around its wonderfully manicured lawns with its fountains and walkways, you would never know the land has had a tumultuous history. The property was once filled with houses of the residents of Barcelona but then in the early 18th Century was destroyed by the king at the time and a citadel was put up in its place – demolishing all of the homes on the way. Earlier in the 20th Century the land was given BACK to the citizens of Barcelona and in place of the citadel, a beautiful park was built for all.
